The event horizon is a mathematical and physical boundary within the geometric structure of the universe.
It is a boundary around a black hole where the gravitational field becomes so intense that the escape velocity exceeds the speed of light. The event horizon is the shell or boundary of a black hole where the laws of physics are still partially describable. It is a point of no return. This boundary signifies the cessation of any causal influence beyond itself. Events that occur within the event horizon can never send a signal to the outside world. This is where the nature of spacetime changes. At this point, the escape velocity required to exit exceeds the speed of light, which is impossible in our universe. Now, why do I begin with the event horizon? This is a complex topic in astrophysics with various aspects. My purpose here is neither to define it nor to delve into physics discussions, nor am I referring to the cosmic event horizon. I intend to use this very specific concept as a metaphor.
In life, the event horizon is a metaphor for moments when a decision, action, or event changes the course of our lives in such a way that returning to the previous state, both physically and psychologically, becomes impossible. The characteristic of this horizon is irreversibility. Just as matter is drawn towards the singularity after crossing the event horizon, some of our decisions (such as immigration, choosing not to have children, ending a long-term relationship, the death of loved ones, war, sometimes choosing a specialization, or a major scientific discovery) place us on a path where our ‘old self’ can no longer coexist.
In physics, an external observer never witnesses an object crossing the event horizon (due to time dilation), but the object itself experiences the passage. In life, others may not notice your fundamental internal change, while you know that you are no longer the same person and everything has changed. The meaning of everything has been transformed.
